Women’s Relief, Training and Health

Many women do not survive childbirth due to Lack of care.

“In Kenya, Pumwani Maternity Hospital serves between 27,000-30,000 women who give birth in the hospital each ear. Majority of them are poor, and young. Yet the government of Kenya run the hospital, the largest maternal health center in East Africa and Central Africa, lacks resources. Patients have to buy their own syringes, needles, cotton wool, and maternity pads. That breaks my heart.” (Founder & CEO, Mr. Musungu).

Project WoRTH will help underdeveloped countries expand access to maternal health care by working with governments and local communities jointly to fund health workers who bicycle to visit women in their villages, who are trained to monitor the health of pregnant women, refers the women to local health centers for prenatal checkups and ensure that they get to a center where skilled attendants can assist with delivery.

Prevent Maternal Deaths:

  • Women need to be near Health Centers, trained Healthcare providers, or electronic facilities associate with Health Centers so they can get advice about nutrition.
  • Facilities for emergency surgery or lifesaving blood transfusions must be available.
  • Health care centers must have an obstetric emergency on call or on duty to attend to pregnant women.
  • The target of Project WoRTH is to reduce the number of women dying during pregnancy and childbirth by 10 – 40% in 2020.
  • The HELM Foundation will work to improve healthcare services in undeveloped countries by addressing maternal mortality.
  • The HELM Foundation will work with local communities and governments to make all resources available to serve the needs of the community for areas such as making sure that the roads to health centers are constructed to make it easier to drive.

Social Hurdles to better maternal health:

The HELM Foundation will work with communities to educate men on maternal health. Maternal health is not only a woman’s issue but also a man’s issue, and very important to society as a whole.

The HELM Foundation’s goal is to help on improving or getting rid of harmful practices that can affect women’s health by addressing the risks. Areas like genital mutilation, early marriage and multiple pregnancies will be addressed.

Three ways to improve women and children health:

Women and children health is a cornerstone for building healthy and stable societies around the globe.

The HELM Foundation will:

  1. Optimize innovative financing tools for development

Allocate financing instruments commonly used in the investment world to help attract more resources, especially private capital, for social impact.

  1. Leverage local private health providers to strengthen health systems

Local private sector is a critical contributor to health in many undeveloped countries.

  1. Tap into private sector expertise and innovation

Private sector’s distinct capabilities can help improve health and develop faster and more efficient and with greater impact. Private sector brings to the table product development, information technology, data analytical, and supply chain.
